A sadly inept adaptation of Graham Greene's novel (script by Greene himself) about turmoil in Haiti under Papa Doc, with a group of English-speaking stereotypes going through the usual intrigues, despair and romance. The main problem is that Glenville's lumbering direction concentrates so much on Dick, Liz and trivia. Only the performances of Gish, Ford and Guinness give any relief from the endless battery of clichés.Author: GA
