The Confessional (1995)
Director: Robert Lepage
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Renowned stage director Robert LePage's debut film is dramatically assured and visually inspired. Returning to Quebec for his father's funeral, Pierre Lamontagne (Bluteau) becomes enmeshed in his adopted brother Marc's obsessive search for roots. The quest takes them back to 1952, when Hitchcock was filming I Confess in the city; at that time, Marc's unmarried 16-year-old mother Rachel revealed the father's identity, under the protection of the confessional. Questions of faith and identity are skilfully woven into an entertaining mystery plot.Author: NF
