The Conspirators (1944)
Director: Jean Negulesco
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In his days at Warners, Negulesco was as polished a perpetrator of pacy, romantic hokum as Michael Curtiz, and he manages to make this Casablanca-type tale entertaining and stylish, despite the contrivances and derivativeness of the plot. Henried is again a resistance fighter, turning up in neutral Lisbon to have an affair with Lamarr (who wouldn't?) and to deal with Nazi spies. With such a cast, and wonderfully dark, contrasty camera-work from Arthur Edeson, enjoyment is assured.Author: GA
