Crime and Punishment (1983)
Director: Aki Kaurismäki
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Kaurismäki does Dostoevsky, and though it's not exactly a straight adaptation, the gloom and foreboding are authentic. Here Raskolnikov is Rahikainen, a Helsinki slaughterhouse worker who shoots the man responsible for killing his wife in a hit-and-run incident three years earlier. At the victim's house, however, he meets a young woman with whom he gets into a relationship, and she, for the moment, withholds his name from the police.Author: TJ
