The Garden of Allah (1936)
Director: Richard Boleslawski
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Selznick's first colour production, a load of lush tosh about the complicated romance in the Algerian desert between disillusioned socialite Dietrich (grieving after her father's death) and Boyer's deserting Trappist monk. Based on a hideously dated Robert Hichens novel, complete with absurdly portentous dialogue, it's all pretty dull as well as silly, despite the rich Technicolor camerawork and sturdy attempts by Dietrich and Boyer to breathe life into the turgid story.Author: GA
