The Gong Show Movie (1980)
Director: Chuck Barris
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A hit on US TV in the latter part of the '70s, The Gong Show was a forum for the talentless - the dentist who played tunes on his drill, the man who blew his trumpet through his navel - who got laughed at by a celebrity panel, or, worse, suffered the ignominy of the gong which terminated their plucky efforts. Unfortunately, Barris, the show's creator/presenter, seemed to be succumbing to megalomania by the time this cringingly diabolical spin-off appeared, detailing his own crises of confidence and mounting personal problems as he tries to keep his beloved show on the road.Author: TJ
