Gonin 2 (1996)
Director: Takashi Ishii
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Not quite the equal of the first film, but it was a typically smart idea to make the five outsiders women this time. Each has a deftly sketched reason to hate society in general and men in particular. They are about to rob an ultra-chic jewellery story when the Ogoshi gang beats them to it, so they set about relieving the yakuza of their haul. The wild card in play is Toyama (Ogata), the owner of a metalworks, who has his own major grudge against the gang and is bent on violent revenge. For sheer graphic flair and visual attack, Ishii's film-making is head-and-shoulders above what passes for comics-influenced cinema in the West.Author: TR
