Grand Theft Parsons (2003)
Director: David Caffrey
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Country rock legend Gram Parsons suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 26 in 1973. His friend and road manager Phil Kaufman promptly made off with the corpse, drove him out to Joshua Tree National Park, California, and set it alight. This tale tall and true makes for an enjoyably low key quirky comedy and a terrific starring vehicle for Jackass star Johnny Knoxville. Caffrey (Divorcing Jack) and co-writer Drysdale don't force the issue, but hit on a pleasing vein of deadpan stoner humour, especially in the character of a hearse-driving hippie who comes along for the ride. It's not as raw as it might have been, and the last reel could use a bit more definition, but it could easily become a a cult favourite.Author: TCh
