Sumptuous MGM kitsch, shot with great panache by Joseph Ruttenberg but treating Johann Strauss and his music to most of the clichés known to the biopic book (the snivelling romantic complications are very hard to take). Victor Fleming took over direction latterly from Duvivier, but the final sequence (Strauss' instant composition of 'The Blue Danube' and tearful farewell to his illicit love) was conceived and directed by Josef von Sternberg.Author: TM

first things first familiar and corny plot, as much to do with Strauss' life as I have with rocketry, but the movie's forward lets you know they are capturing the spirit, rather than offering a bio. What MGM grandly offers is a
beautiful buffet of grand music, presented with class and beauty. It is worth the purchase price, and then some. And, Korjus is gorgeous. So many of today's singers getting prraised for finding a high note or two. The should be made to sit down and listen to this lady.
Then, they can gets jobs as plumbers. The movie is --- as the title implies. - Report as inappropriate
