Green Grow the Rushes (1951)
Director: Derek Twist
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The film technicians' union ACTT (as it then was) set up its own production company to break the grip which the British majors then had on the industry and thus provide extra work for its members. Their first offering, from the novel by Howard Clewes, was this diluted combination of Whisky Galore! and Passport to Pimlico in which a bunch of Kent brandy smugglers call on ancient rights to prevent the men from the ministry shutting down their operations. The film had distribution problems at the time, and these days is chiefly of archival interest.Author: TJ
