From Time Out Film Guide

Worthy but wooden and stilted melodrama set in a Kerala village dependent on pottery for survival. Much of the drama focuses on a womanising rebel and drunkard who treats his latest partner none too well and comes up against some local spivs. Of some interest, of course, for its depicition of a society somewhat different from our own, but in terms of drama, direction and performance (the forever simpering heroine is especially embarrassing), it's hard going.
