The Pajama Game (1957)
Director: George Abbott, Stanley Donen
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A truly joyous screen adaptation of the Broadway musical, with Doris Day heading the union in a clothing factory. The real star of the show is arguably Bob Fosse's stunning choreography, in particular the tour de force sequence of the workers' picnic. No opportunity to use the bright colours and props offered by the setting is missed, and the songs by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross are memorable ('Hey, There' and 'There Once Was a Man'). An enthusiastic young Jean-Luc Godard dubbed it 'the first left-wing operetta'.Author: DT
