From Time Out Film Guide

Treading Tyneside territory a decade before Get Carter, this crime thriller features a gang of unlikely Geordies as the target of the vengeance-seeking widow of a security guard killed in a factory payroll heist. Nerve-ends snap a little too patly on cue as the noose tightens, but the fresh use of provincial backdrops (part of the British cinema's belatedly sudden discovery of 'the North') and the oddly assorted casting exercise their own fascination.

Posted on Apr 23 2008 09:59 Payroll needs to be viewed on a widescreen, its raw and realistic, the thundering crashes of the two lorries that crush the payroll van is one of the most iconic memories of the film.I can't recall ever seeing it on TV,which is a great shame as it rates up there with Get Carter.I have failed to obtain a copy, anyone know where I can get one?
