The Picture Show Man (1977)
Director: John Power
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A cutely nostalgic portrait of the early years of movie exhibition in Australia, charting the tragi-comic rivalries of travelling film showmen in the '20s. If the scenery and period 'charm' don't grab you, you could try reading the narrative as a metaphor on the contemporary Aussie cinema's production boom, and the conflicting demands for an indigenous or 'international' focus (the latter represented by Taylor's outsider/competitor). Not, however, particularly recommended.Author: PT
