Bland Hollywood remake of Luc Besson's Nikita: Fonda plays Maggie, a junkie who kills a cop and is offered the choice of dying or selling her soul to the Government. She chooses the latter, and under the eye of agent Bob (Byrne) retrains as a killer with feminine wiles. Bob is infatuated with his creation, but can't mix business with pleasure, so, when Maggie emerges as a glamorous hitwoman, he has to stand by while she falls for photographer JP (Mulroney). In the original, stylish direction and committed acting diverted attention from the espionage hocus-pocus. Here we have MTV slickness, bigger-budget action and a Nina Simone soundtrack.Author: CO'S
