A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1977)

Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

A prosaic and reverential treatment of the didactic high points of James Joyce's novel, which provides at best an occasional reminder of his gleeful contempt for that uniquely Irish blend of political and religious duplicity. But Strick's view of Ireland as the subject of a coffee table movie gives no sense of 'the sow that eats her farrow'.
