He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not… (2002)
Director: Laetitia Colombani
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
With Tautou on board, this is a neat idea. Remember how the loved-up Amélie only ever turned nasty in the wider interests of humanity? Now think alter-Amélie and meet artist Angélique, whose heart is near breaking over an affair with a cardiologist. But as friends point out, Loïc (Le Bihan) is hardly worthy of her enduring affection. A married father to be, he's in trouble at work and invariably fails to show for their intricately planned assignations. This visually accomplished thriller tells the same story twice, from Angélique's perspective and then the doctor's, it was probably more fun to construct than it is to watch. Part one is initially intriguing but likely to frustrate all but the most unsuspecting viewer; part two comes across as a self-congratulatory gap filler bringing few real surprises bar the big one. Meanwhile, in the distasteful subtext department, the film is down there with Fatal Attraction.Author: SS
