High Road to China (1983)
Director: Brian G Hutton
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
No better or worse than other film-making-by-numbers imitations of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Armstrong plays a headstrong '20s heiress searching for her father, an inventor; Selleck plays the grizzled alcoholic flying ace who owns the only available planes. There is absolutely no feeling for the period, and the actors make no attempt to rise above the script's feeble idea of verbal sparring. But the Yugoslav locations are scenic, the aerial stunts are efficient, and there's an explosion every time interest starts to flag. Assuming, of course, that the interest was there in the first place.Author: TR

- Posted on Mar 30 2008 03:12 Decent, old-fashioned, romantic, comic, adventure. Largely forgotten now but it entaertained me way back in 1983. From the director of Where Eagles Dare (1968) and Kelly's Heroes (1970). Decent performances all round with lots of great UK character actors in support and a superb John Barry score. Under-rated.
