The Macomber Affair (1946)
Director: Zoltan Korda
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Archetypal Hemingway tale of the rich dilettante on safari (Preston) - tormented by his own cowardice, taunted by his wife (Bennett), and finally rendered superfluous as she turns to their white hunter guide (Peck). Surprisingly persuasive (considering the stars stayed in Hollywood while three second unit cameramen shot the backgrounds), thanks to an admirably terse script and excellent performances. But it gradually begins to fall apart in the last third as courage is put to the test among the big game.Author: TM
