Warners' first fully animated feature is a disappointment - and this from the studio that fostered Chuck Jones and Tex Avery. There's no sign of those animators' anarchic style in this anodyne, PC tale from the table of King Arthur. Kayley, a cross between Pocahontas and Anastasia, longs to join the Knights of the Round Table, just like her dead father. Megalomaniac Ruber, however, has grander plans: he wants Arthur's sword, and dispatches his pet griffin to get it. The animation has little depth of field (galloping horses hover inches above the ground), the colours are watery, and there's not much Englishness in the settings. The characters, too, are unimaginative, with only bad boy Ruber (voiced by Oldman) providing any originality (his song and dance number is the one highlight).Author: DA
