Man of Africa (1953)
Director: Cyril Frankel
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A real oddity, shot by Frankel in deepest Uganda with an eight-man crew. Frequently revealing the shortcomings of the Flaherty/Grierson approach to fictionalised documentary, its story - about a tribe of Africans who resettle in pygmy country and face danger from malaria, elephants and internal strife - is thin, melodramatic and more than a little trite. But the film's curiosity value, plus the endearing grace and energy of the pygmies, make it worth a look.Author: GA
