Foreign Office filing clerk Wisdom drops a washbasin on the head of one of the delegates to a Geneva conference and is forced to take his place. His unwitting efforts on behalf of a small island make him a major diplomatic figure and he is invited to visit the grateful islanders. Wisdom's cretinous humour is an acquired taste: fans speak highly of this one.Author: NF
