The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1943)
Director: Preston Sturges
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Characteristically hectic Sturges amalgam of satire and slapstick, hitting out at such sacred cows as Momism and religion as it tells of the predicament of Hutton, a lively smalltown girl who finds herself pregnant after a drunken binge during which she married one of six unknown soldiers. Enter the stuttering oaf Bracken who loves her, to help out as stand-in father and watch agog as the town itself gets caught up in an inexorable whirl of chaos. Great verbal gags and non-sequiturs, fast-paced action, and a thorough irreverence for all things deemed respectable - politicians, policemen and magistrates included - make it a lasting delight, not least when the lady finally gives birth...to sextuplets.Author: GA
