Potboiling whodunit set in an old dark house, crammed with shots of menacing silhouettes and characters all behaving sinisterly. Blondell, as lively as usual, is the best thing in the film as a nurse sent to tend to Elizabeth Patterson, prostrated by the suicide - possibly murder - of her nephew. When Patterson goes the same way, done in by hypodermic, Blondell helps Brent's police inspector - for whom she naturally falls - uncover a dastardly legal plot. The supporting performances are indifferent.Author: TM
