The Moonshine War (1970)
Director: Richard Quine
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Amiable caper adapted by Elmore Leonard from his own novel about whisky hijackers in hillbilly country just before the repeal of Prohibition, with McGoohan's scarecrow ex-revenue agent and Widmark's Rabelaisian struck-off dentist joining forces to lay siege to Alda's hidden cache of moonshine when money, guile and threats get them nowhere. Directing with one eye very much on Bonnie and Clyde, Quine makes heavy weather of the tone and style, but the characterisations - abetted by nice dialogue - make it more enjoyable than not.Author: TM
