There are two unavoidable problems at the core of this film about the psychological impact of a couple's separation on their 11-year-old daughter. First, the 45-year-old male director seems to have no point of entry into the mind of his young protagonist, so that the entire film rings hollow. Second, the girl herself (newcomer Tomoko Tabata) is a most obnoxious spoiled brat, which makes it hard to care.Author: TR
