Muppets from Space (1999)
Director: Tim Hill
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
If you've ever wondered what sort of creature The Great Gonzo might be, the title of this latest Muppets frolic provides a much needed answer. Here, Gonzo himself learns he is not of this earth, and announces the same on Miss Piggy's cable TV show, 'UFO Mania', immediately attracting attention from government scientists investigating extra-terrestrial activity. But even as Gonzo's interplanetary brethren are zapping back down for a reunion, he's taken captive for experimental purposes by agent K Edgar Singer (Tambor). It's time for the rest of the Muppet family to spring him free, albeit at the risk of saying bye-bye to Gonzo forever. After some distinctive Muppet adaptations, the Henson company here suffer the perils of moving back to original material. Frankly, this half-hearted affair doesn't really make it. Not enough Kermit is one problem, dull songs and lacklustre humour also dampen the spirits.Author: TJ
