This exploration of the role of the Hijab (the veil) in contemporary Muslim society takes a woman from her home in Sydney around the world to visit her dispersed family. Writer/director Kay Rasool questions her own commitment to her religion - hers is a pick 'n' mix approach - and ponders the wider cultural implications for Muslim women wherever they may find themselves. There are doubtless many complex and vital issues in here, somewhere, but Rasool is no film-maker. Her join-the-dots style is tiring; the endless voice-over grates and merely highlights the lack of rhythm to the film. As an example of documentary film-making, this couldn't be less exciting, as a polemic it is hardly more convincing.Author: FM
