Quiet! (2002)
Director: Victor Kossakovsky
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Filmed over a year from a window in his St Petersburg apartment, in the run-up to the city's 300th anniversary, documentary maestro Kossakovsky's wordless portrait of his central street becomes more abstract and mysterious as it develops. Shots of unending roadworks, wandering dogs and the surreal activities of passers-by give way to close-ups of pigeons, snowflakes on the window and pebble compositions, plus the use of zooms, pans and tilts, slowly establishes a tone of comic absurdity and alienation.
