Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

This glossy action picture bears little resemblance to the '60s British TV series on which it's based. Simon Templar, multi-faceted thief turned rescue-hero, is suffering an identity crisis: you can tell by the frequency with which he changes persona. Thankfully, a tough upbringing has prepared him for a world full of megalomaniacs like Ivan Tretiak (Serbedzija), a corporate boss with an eye on the presidency of the new Russian Empire. Ivan needs something to get the public vote: the fusion formula discovered by British scientist Dr Emma Russell (Shue). Emma takes Templar to her bosom, where, conveniently, she keeps the equations to her theory. Cue more improbablities than Mission Impossible. Kilmer has the Templar face, but not the charm. Eminently forgettable.
