St Elmo's Fire (1985)
Director: Joel Schumacher
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This definitive Brat Pack movie, a yuppie coming-of-age yarn, is co-written and directed by Joel Schumacher - all, perhaps, anyone really needs to know. But still, filling in the blanks, it's a portrait, drawn in crayon, of a group of friends in Washington, DC, recently graduated from college, but light years from maturity, struggling to cope with the fragilities of their relationships and the complexities of what MTV later termed The Real World. Estevez and Nelson are as unappealing here as in The Breakfast Club, though in fairness they're hampered by a script that seems to despise its characters. So, by the end, will you.Author: WFJ
