The Sandman (1995)
Director: Nico Hofmann
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
An ambitious young TV researcher (Eichhorn) looks to boost her show's ratings by interviewing a controversial, arrogant author, Henry Kupfer, who killed a prostitute in his youth. As she gets to know Kupfer, she becomes convinced he's responsible for a number of brutal sex-murders committed in the locality and resolves to unmask him on air. Undecided as to whether it's a sinister (if fairly ingenious) thriller or a comment on media attitudes towards violence and morbid psychology, Hofmann's film is intriguing and frustrating in equal measure. George is charismatic as the suspected serial killer, but genre clichés, implausibilities, and a few gloating women-in-peril scenes make this less satisfying than it might have been.Author: GA
