Savage Man… Savage Beast (1975)
Director: Antonio Climati, Mario Morra
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A bloody, blatantly exploitative mess of a movie, cutting bewilderingly between North and South America, Australia, Europe and Africa, with flimsily related scenes of animals killing each other and men killing animals for survival, sport and profit. A woefully inadequate English commentary (the original was by Alberto Moravia) tries to make sense of all this slaughter. Finally, however, this patched-up documentary reveals its true colours: just another opportunity to gawp at raw scenes of sex and (more especially) violence. In the Burundi jungle, two soon-to-be-hanged brothers are seen squatting in the rain with the cannibalised remains of their father; a foolish tourist leaves his car and is eaten by lions; a van carrying a crew filming cheetahs overturns at sickening speed. Rock bottom is reached with the inclusion of 16 mm home movie footage of white mercenaries cheerfully mutilating and butchering Amazonian tribesmen.Author: JPy
