Shanghai before and after the Japanese occupation, but gleefully anachronistic in every way. The plot (boy meets girl; boy loses girl; boy and girl wind up as feuding neighbours without recognising each other) is collaged together from classic Shanghai movies like Street Angel Crossroads and 8000 Li Under the Clouds and Moon. The cast is pretty, but it looks and sounds like a 90-minute commercial. It will certainly boost sales of paracetamol.Author: TR
