A Short Working Day (1981)
Director: Krzysztof Kieslowski
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In this superior Kieslowski TV drama, based on real events, a labour bigwig, well regarded by the proletariat and politicians alike, finds himself in a potential danger when his metalworkers protest at a massive hike in food prices by striking and laying siege to his offices. Despite initial talkiness, the film succeeds as suspense, as a character study of a man who refuses to succumb to fear despite having no clear political commitment, and as a celebration of the rise of Solidarity.Author: GA
