Slither (1973)
Director: Howard Zieff
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The movie that virtually defines the term 'offbeat', in the very best sense of the word. Part thriller, part road movie, part heist caper, and part parody (most notably of Duel) Zieff's first and (along with Hollywood Cowboy) best film sees ex-con car thief Caan joining up with recvee (recreation vehicle, ie. caravan) fanatic Boyle and his wife Lasser in a search for an embezzled fortune, and getting into pretty nasty trouble en route. What makes the film so disarmingly enjoyable is its cool, dry sense of absurdity, and its unsentimental affection for the eccentric but definitely not wacky characters. It's a tale of ordinary people with extraordinary dreams and delusions, the sort of film that can conjure magical mayhem out of a caravan park bingo tournament.Author: GA
