A grimly embarrassing anti-racist Western about the US Cavalry's notorious Sand Creek Indian massacre in 1864. In the interests of propaganda, one might just about stomach the way the massacre itself is turned into a gleefully exploitative gore-fest of blood and amputated limbs; but not when it's associated with a desert romance that's shot like an ad-man's wet dream, all soft focus and sweet nothings. To complete the rout, the script has an unerring instinct for cliché. 'Why, why, why?' yells the appalled hero. Box-office, is the curt answer.Author: TM

- Posted on Feb 08 2011 10:32 My Aunt bought me the DVD, and I'm buying her, in response, a get-well card for her brain, or some Mister Ed re-runs, (which are about 10 times better.)

- Posted on Sep 14 2010 14:01 TM was obviously not around whem the film came out, probably the best of the "western" films of its time. Today the film is outdated by all the new digital gimmicks. I suspect GM would regard AVATAR as a "must see" film,
