Something Happened (1987)
Director: Roy Andersson
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Andersson reckons the health authorities wouldn't let him finish the AIDS-awareness film they'd commissioned because he'd discovered the virus was probably the product of medical research. Maybe, but perhaps they weren't expecting anything as bizarre or as occasionally hilarious as this startling precursor to the aesthetic strategies of Songs from the Second Floor. That's not to say there aren't scenes here as harrowing as a nightmare; but the merciless satirising of the medical establishment's absurd scapegoating of minorities and hapless inadequacy in the face of disaster is scathingly brilliant.Author: GA
