The Song of the Scarlet Flower (1918)
Director: Mauritz Stiller
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Typically lyrical and lovely pastoral fable from Swedish maestro Stiller, with Hanson (familiar from Sjöström's The Wind) as the errant womaniser courting come-uppance. Darkly and in some places deliriously melodramatic, it's most memorable for a stunning downriver log-riding sequence. The kind of film that makes one want to see more of its once famous director's oeuvre - particularly Johan, famously remade by Aki Kaurismäki as the silent Juha.Author: GA
