Outstandingly silly biopic of Liszt, and a return to the floridly romantic style of Vidor's earlier film about Chopin, A Song to Remember. History is bunk, and the conception of creative genius as half-baked as, say, a Ken Russell film, in that it's purely love that makes the music flow. But at least James Wong Howe's photography of the elegant sets is suitably impressive. Cukor finished the film after Vidor's death - but it doesn't show.Author: GA
