A superior sequel to the original Hope/Russell vehicle, The Paleface, which Tashlin co-wrote. Again it's the tale of a timid braggart who falls in with a far more able woman (here an outlaw on the run from Rogers' federal marshal), and it's tailor-made for Hope's cowardly bluster and Russell's sassy sensuality. What's more, the verbal gags are nicely complemented by Tashlin's brashly wacky visual slapstick, which - like his later work - takes great pleasure in spoofing/deconstructing the genre to which the film subscribes.Author: GA
