Stella Does Tricks (1996)
Director: Coky Giedroyc
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
It may not be explicit on the physical front, but this kitchen-sink study of teenage prostitution is dubious: yes, we should know that such exploitation exists, but what's this first feature actually saying? Kelly Macdonald (from Trainspotting) is impressive in the lead, oppressed by deceptively helpful pimp Bolam and prepared to make a new start with junkie Mathieson, but she's not helped by AL Kennedy's obvious script, clumsy flashbacks, and, despite the project's liberal stance, an overall prurience (a gang-rape scene is particularly nasty).Author: GA
