Summer Snow (1994)
Director: Ann Hui
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This is Hui's most wholly satisfying movie since The Spooky Bunch (1981) - which also, perhaps not coincidentally, starred HK cinema's greatest comedienne, Josephine Siao. Her role here isn't written as comedy (she plays a woman beset with problems at work and at home who finds herself stuck looking after her senile father-in-law, a man she's always hated), but her expertly judged playing is irresistibly comic: deadpan reaction shots, little surges of pride and self-esteem to help her through her worst moments, strategic eruptions of exasperation.Author: TR
