Superman II (1980)

Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

This is movie-making on a less grandiose scale than before, but the combination of Richard Donner's superb original casting and visual attack with Lester's wit and his ear for sound proves a pretty formidable alliance. The basic plot (Supervillains enslave Earth) is potentially far more interesting than before, and though you occasionally miss the essential seriousness Donner brought to the subject, Lester generally replaces it with an intelligent satirical edge and some good gags. Purists may find certain things hard to take, but audiences have little cause for complaint.
