The Swimmer (1968)
Director: Frank Perry
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A largely loony but oddly compulsive allegory, taken from a John Cheever story, in which Lancaster, clad only in swimming trunks, makes his slow way home by swimming through various people's pools. Partly an obscure satire on the idle rich, partly an eccentric commentary on disillusionment and dreams, it is almost - but, importantly, not quite - nonsense. That said, it is totally engrossing, thanks to its very strangeness, and to the superb performances and the vivid location photography.Author: GA

- Posted on Dec 07 2008 19:06 I have to say The swimmer is a great film,i remember watching it the first time and thinking, this is a waste of time, but something about the film convinced me to watch it again..Friends when i asked them what they thought about the film laughed and asked me how i endured Burt lancasters worst movie? But now i think it is one of the finest films ever made.It is a movie that just says"there but for the grace of god go i" its a tragedy that could happen to any one of us,and Burt plays it brilliantly..
