I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988)
Director: Keenen Ivory Wayans
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In this spoof of the mean-ass blaxploitation actioners of the '70s, a crisis has struck New York's black neighbourhoods: the brothers are 'OG'-ing (overdosing on gold medallions, etc) in their thousands. Into the fray comes army sergeant Jack Spade (Wayans); returning from years of brave desk and latrine duty to find his younger rother has fallen victim, he decides to hunt down evil Mr Big (Vernon). Wayans tosses out black stereotypes in arresting profusion, adopting the Airplane! approach: broad rather than subtle visual gags and parodic encounters. The greatest pleasure comes from seeing '70s veterans send themselves up: an overweight Hayes 'tooling up' with enough weaponry to bomb Libya; Fargas' Flyguy, winner of the 'Pimp of the Year' competition, in ludicrous flamboyant threads. The music ranges from Hayes through Curtis Mayfield to rap. The film was co-scripted by Robert Townsend, which may account for a faint smell of complacent yuppie bad faith in the air, but that is blown away by the enthusiasm and innocence of the playing.Author: WH
