Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

A delirious, overheated melodrama in which a young woman, forced to support her unappreciative family, slides into a life of prostitution, exploitation and sexual violence, with deadly results. Shot in expressionist style, complete with weird camera effects, this is a movie about madness, inflamed passions, impotence, sadism and, unfortunately, 'Ma Cherie Amour'.

Posted on May 29 2009 05:00 This is a strange film--it was made during the peak of Park Chung-hee's military rule, a time when there was little room for creativity, or a proper budget when it came to the film industry, but this movie is unlike anything you will ever see. If you are a lover of foreign cinema, or you are slightly interested in Korean cinema (although some argue that Kim is a total defector from the typical Korean cinema), I strongly recommend this odd little picture.
