In the Best Interests of the Children (1977)
Director: Elizabeth Stevens, Cathy Zheutlin, Frances Reid
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A documentary which argues the right of lesbian mothers to custody of their children. Constructed in a series of interviews with several mothers and their staggeringly articulate children, the film eschews any real analysis of the situation, but works instead on an emotive level to convince that lesbians are really OK people. Thus, unfortunately, the visual correlative to the spoken statement is given in the clichéd form of these particular women at their housewifely best (the film's homely, non-alienating stance was designed for TV).Author: HM
