Island in the Sun (1957)
Director: Robert Rossen
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Eager yet compromised tilt at a mid-'50s race relations movie, which hasn't quite got the courage of its convictions. Diluted from a novel by Alec Waugh, it's set on a fictional West Indian island, Santa Marta, where wealthy would-be politico Mason stirs up matters by opposing union leader Belafonte in the local election, and the challenger's sister Collins frets at the effect it might have on her impending engagement to Governor's son Boyd. Self-important and rather phoney.Author: TJ
