I Take This Woman (1940)
Director: WS Van Dyke
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Tracy as a dedicated doctor who dissuades Lamarr from committing suicide, marries her, and then an old flame of his shows up, making Lamarr go off the rails again. Much more interesting than the soapy histrionics is the film's production history: the supporting cast was changed in mid-stream, and director Josef von Sternberg was replaced by Frank Borzage, who was finally replaced by Van Dyke. Known in Hollywood as 'I Re-take This Woman', it was really a project of Louis B Mayer's, which would have been junked had it not been for the mogul's insistence that Hedy Lamarr would become a star in it.Author: ATu
